Training your Rottweiler
Owning a Rottweiler means knowing the breed well enough to know this type of canine needs room to run, exercise, play, and train. Down below will give you tips on training your future Rottweiler. We will attach some articles for you to read as well as send you off to YouTube and other sites to help see and be ready for your puppy Rottweiler or even as an adult Rottweiler.
Kennel or Crate ?
Kennel or Crate which ever you call it. A Rottweiler needs a bedroom just like we do as humans. A Rottweiler will be safer if it has a kennel to sleep in or a safe room.
If you decide to never kennel or crate your dog. That is okay, but if an emergency comes up your dog should be familiar with one of the two and be willing to enter in without hesitation. No no one wants a dog in an emergency situation that all of sudden is stubborn. They may not understand a tornado, hurricane, or earthquake is coming and you need them in a safe spot. Having them also trained in a kennel or crate allows for also a less of an mistake bite. When a dog is nervous or unsure about a situation they can bite. Even the best Rottweiler can snap and it may be a nip of a bite, but in an emergency no one needs that at that moment. So take a moment and learn and train yourself and your Rottweiler to have its own room. We even set our Rottweilers up with Christmas lights inside of its kennel as well as fans, and blankets along with its favorite toys.
Training/Classes
Puppy Classes- After you receive your puppy. Sign it up for a puppy training class. We have found that a puppy at 8-12 weeks really needs socialization skills brought into its world. We have seen a huge difference in our dogs when we received them as puppies to toddlers to even as an adult dog with little to no training.
Our dog Karma was put in a puppy class when we got her at 8 weeks and when we got Sugar at 2 months she had no training yet. Just in such a short time difference our Karma is much more relaxed around all dogs compared to Sugar when we got her at 2 months and no training at the 8-10 weeks of age. She is a bit stand offish at first with other dogs till we correct her and than she is fine with any dog. So getting your puppy right away after the breeder has hand your newest addition to your family is to sign him/her into a puppy class. Since your puppy is going to be a pure breed register with AKC. You should find an AKC training facility near you and continue your puppy's title. Everyone loves a good pat on the back and Rottweiler loves to show its owner what they can do for you. Plus you have an empty spot in your house that the walls need some awards on. If you can't find an AKC training facility, search for a trainer like one of the big box pet stores. They normally have some sort of training for puppies.
Rottweilers should always continue to be trained through out its life.
